Foyer Pillows Tutorial

I wanted some super cute pillows for the foyer, and since I just learned to sew. I figured it be the perfect time to make the perfect pillows for the foyer! I took a trip to Wal-Mart to gather my supplies:
  • 1 yard of burlap
  • 2 pillow inserts
  • Tam thread
  • Black acrylic paint (on hand)
  • Foam brush (on hand)

Once I got home, I started on my stencil. I simply used Microsoft Word on my computer and made three separate sheets - one with a large R, one with "Est." and one with "'08." After I chose my font and found the perfect size, I printed all three templates. I then cut out all the black numbers and letters to leave a hollow space to make a stencil.

Next, the fun began! I measured out my fabric, cut, pinned and sewed three sides of each pillow.

Since I used burlap, I needed to stencil the pillowcase before I put it over the pillow. (Doing it after would result in the paint running through the burlap holes and staining the pillow.) I taped my homemade "stencil" onto my pillow. I used a small foam brush and black acrylic paint to color in the stencil. Once I peeled the stencil off, it looked great!!

After the paint dried, I put in the pillow insert and sewed up the last side. Here's the end result!!

Happy Hump Day!
